FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Q) What time should we arrive on Friday?
All Collegiate performers are expected to arrive at the Classic Center, in time for soundchecks, at 11am. Late arrivals will miss their designated soundcheck time, as well as information and instructions regarding the competition, concert, and workshops. Soundcheck times will not be rescheduled, and CD’s (for sale during intermission) will not be accepted after 1pm, so be sure to arrive on time.

Q) What is the expected attire for Friday/Saturday?
During the day on Friday, in the Welcome & Reception Suite, and during soundchecks, attire is casual. At 4pm, however, all collegiate performers and expected to change into semi-formal attire for the Banquet and Concert. On Saturday, there is no expected attire for Workshops & Masterclasses.

Q) How long are soundchecks?
Each group is allowed 10-12 minutes to soundcheck before the competition. Groups will be emailed their soundcheck time in advance, and will not be allowed to reschedule. Please plan on arriving in Athens by 11am, as your group will need to first check-in and receive a dressing room before soundchecking.

Q) What are the prizes for the Competition?
First place: $500 cash prize, trophy for 1st place, and bragging rights!
Second place: $250 cash prize, and trophy for 2nd place
Third place: Trophy for 3rd place.
Judges may also award additional awards.

How long should our set be?
Sets for competing groups should be 3 songs (approximately 12 minutes, including getting on/off stage, speaking, etc.) maximum.

Q) Who is judging the competition?
Judges include members from each of the professional groups performing in the Concert and teaching workshops, as well as representatives from the Contemporary A Cappella Society.

Q) Where will the workshops take place?
Workshops and masterclasses will take place at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music on the campus of the University of Georgia.
